January has been thrilling and life changing at the same time. 😃 The board of my organization and I were completely focused on planning our very first Donation Drive!!! 😀😇 We conducted the drive last Saturday.
Let me say, as we were out doing the work of The Lord, it was a success!!!!!
After weeks of gathering donations from kind hearted strangers, friends and family… we had more than enough items to create more than 64 care kits for the homeless individuals of Dallas! 😇
Donations included Hygienic Items such as:
- Wet wipes, Shampoo/Conditioner, Toothbrushes/Toothpaste, Soap Bars, Lotion, Hand Sanitizer, Hair Brushes, Menstrual Pads, Kleenex, Mouthwash, Band-aids, Washcloths and Shower Sponges.
One thing about Texas is the weather can be very inconsistent at times.
One week in the “winter time”, we can have a high of 60 degrees/low of 38 degrees; then drastically it’ll switch to a high of 43 degrees/low of 28 degrees.
That’s exactly what happened as the donation drive quickly approached. 🥶
When the event was originally set up, we had no idea it would be THAT cold! Thank God we asked for winter clothing donations, pillows, blankets, socks and etc… from the get-go of the drive!
We received a lot of thermals, sweaters, blankets, scarfs and beanies. Someone kindly donated hand warmers and those are like gold!!!!! Oh boy, each and every one of them came to good use.
We started the drive at 10am in the central area of Downtown Dallas. Homeless individuals usually wait outside the shelters until they’re open.
The shelter across the street from the location of our drive allows women to enter at 2pm and men at 4pm. During a typical morning at this location, you’ll see hundreds of people lined up against the closed doors, in anticipation of shelter and a meal.
Even though it was going to be cold, we were determined more than ever to help anyone that we came across!! I had some peers ask if we were going to cancel but when the weather is THAT dire, that is when our services are needed more than ever.
Hypothermia is a great risk that many homeless individuals face every day across the country.
Consciously knowing this, we still went out to eager to provide aid to others while being humble at heart.
As we approached our destination, we noticed that the shelter across the street opened up early as an emergency order due to the freezing temps!
The numbers were severely lessened and not many were out on that block like they usually are. 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Of course, we can’t help but to give thanks to God for allowing the individuals of the community to beckon under a warm roof rather than the slick cold concrete.
Again, Thank you Jesus for that!
The group and I gathered our carekits and drove on the opposite side of downtown to check out another popular spot for the homeless.
Surely, we did come across a good number of people who needed carekits and clothes! We were at the right place, at the right time.
There were some who didn’t even have pants on or barely any clothes on. Some were starving as their eyes lit up at the sight of the snacks inside of the kits.
Many left with carekits in the hands and gratitudes in their hearts! 💙💚
Within the kits, we also put our card in there with scriptures and words of encouragement on the back!
Letting them know that they are destined for greatness and called into a royal priesthood. Reminding them that Jesus is with them and He loves them more than they know.
Truly, none of us are ever alone and knowing such truth can make a dramatic difference in one’s life and where their hope lies.
The most requested items were the clothes, winter attire, snacks and hygienic items.
(Excuse our faces, the sun decided to shine at the “perfect” time 😅)
We ended up having well over 614 items donated to the cause!!!!
I want to thank everyone who volunteered, who donated to the cause, who supported this blog and supported The Ascender’s Touch in anyway!!!!! 💙
I will never forget it. My heart is full!!!
What a way to begin the New Year, along with the perfect timing of the Super Blood Wolf Moon the night after! 😍
We have beckoned into a new season of divine glory and greatness. No doubt, there’s more in store! 😇
I am excited that we came together to help others for the kingdom’s good. We will be hosting more donation drives later on this year.
One specially a toy and food drive to help children who are going without. Also, to help single parent family households. Stay tuned my friends!!!!
