Taking Chances: Footsteps To The Lake

Oooo ahhh! Can you smell it??? ☺️

No, I’m not referring to the laundry detergent or my Bath & Body Works candles near by. Lol

I’m actually referring to SPRING; it’s in the air!! ❤️

Yesterday was semi-gloomy day here in Texas but I didn’t let that stop me from exploring God’s phenomenal nature. I could feel the radiance of God’s annoiting in every step that I took. Step by step… Walking closer to the lake side view.

It’s almost summer I am discovering this new love for lake water. I know that may sound weird (lol) but growing up I was never fond of the idea of jumping into “dirty” lake water. It didn’t sound appealing to me. For example: How many animals make waste in a lake? And How deep are these things? Lol The chance of there being a sign that mentions this on the shoreline is slim to none.

Back then I was biased of the idea of trying something new & only stuck with chlorine or salt water pools. Each year, all of my friends faithfully went to the lake as soon as the Texas heat came into play. Sadly, during those years I let my mind restrict me from having some extra fun.

A friend of mine once asked me “You may be alive but are you really living?!”.

That saying tends to pop up in my head from time to time. While we wait for something spontaneous to happen, God wants us to continuously enjoy life. Stop holding your breath. Just relax and press forward. And HEY!, trying new things may come off as awkward at first but it’s all about getting outside your comfort zone. By doing that, it’s when we grow the most. Coming from experience, it is easier said than done but practice makes perfect.

Unfortunately, I didn’t jump in the lake yesterday BUT I did capture some great photos of this pure white bird flying with grace. How beautiful! It was perfect timing planned by the master himself.

Anywho, I’ll jump in the lake one of these days. It gets really hot down here in the South so it’ll happen a lot sooner than you think. 😁

Check out this excerpt by Rev. Patrick Kelly discussing the reality of taking chances/risks in life altogether.

We cannot move forward in life without taking risks and taking chances. We are often faced with situations requiring us to risk much. Persons who serve us as fire fighters, police officers, and military men and women are often required to risk their life. Progress in nearly every aspect of life is impossible without taking chances.

The future in this reality is always unknown. We might wish for a “sure thing” in our future but we must realize “sure things” in this world are rare.
However, those of us who are Christians do have a “sure thing.” We have a sure person. We have Christ our Savior who has given us a sure future reaching out into eternity. In Christ, we have a guarantee of His continuous presence with us. When we are faced with risks and we fear outcomes, we must remember Christ will never abandon us or leave us as orphans.”

I agree with the Reverend! Thank you Lord for being our “sure thing”! When we fail, your love never wavers. Your faithfulness is astounding and refreshing! Hallelujah!

Now I dare you guys to try to do something new and  exciting today, even if it doesn’t go as planned. You have to start somewhere! Have a great Friday. ❤️

My NEW Favorite Recipies! (YUM)

On a lighter note I want to share some of my cooking skills with you guys. ❤️

Lately, I have been inspired to cook a lot more often rather than going out to eat every single day. 6 years ago, when I first became a college student, I soon realized that money is very valuable. Even when I worked at an corporate office, going out to buy lunch everyday became expensive. The main app that inspired me was PINTEREST!! Thank you pinterest for all of those late night scrolls, it has paid off. haha

These are my two favorite recipes that I can become fond of this month (Not including my steaks… Those are my favorite everyday lol) :

Blueberry & Peach Mini Cobblers:

This recipe is so simple and yet delicious at the same time. Feel free to try it out for yourself! The pictures above show how mine came out. ☺️

  • 1 can of Pillsbury dough sheet
  • 1 carton of fresh blueberries (or a bag of frozen blueberries… they are just as yummy!)
  • 3 fresh peaches or a can of peaches. (I happened to use the canned peaches each time)
  • Powdered sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • Vanilla extract
  • and LOVE to finish the rest!❤️

After you have all of the ingredients, it’s pretty simple. Preheat the oven to 350 F.

Unfold the dough sheet and spread it across your cupcake molds. Tear apart dough that is on the edges of the cupcake mold. Insert a few blueberries and a small amount of peaches in the mold. Add cinnamon and a small amount of vanilla extract on top of the fruit. Afterwards, begin to fill the rest of the mold with more fruit. Let it bake for about 25 minutes, you can be the judge if it needs more time to bake. Since they are so small… they bake a lot faster than a whole pie would.

When the mini cobblers are all finished, you can sprinkle powdered sugar over them for an extra umph of sweetness! I made about 15 mini cobbs with 1 dough sheet. They looked so awesome, I had to grab my camera and take a picture!

Mexican Stuffed Bell Peppers:

There are various ways that you can make these stuffed bell peppers. Some people only stuff half of a whole pepper and others, like myself, stuff the whole pepper.

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 pound beef
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup rice, cooked
  • 1/2 can black beans (about 8 oz – whole can is 15 oz), rinsed
  • 1 large tomato, chopped into small slices
  • medium size green bell peppers (I grabbed a bag of 9 peppers)
  • (optional) 2/3 cup marinara meatless spaghetti tomato sauce
  • 2/3 cup water or less – judge for yourself
  • mozzarella cheese
  • cheddar cheese

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Heat the skillet on stove top until hot, add olive oil – it should sizzle. Immediately add ground beef and cook it constantly stirring until nicely browned and cooked through. Remove from heat. Drain all excess fat. Add 1 teaspoon chili powder, 1 teaspoon cumin, 1/4 teaspoon salt to cooked ground beef, stir to combine.

To the same skillet, off heat, add black beans, chopped tomatoes, and cooked rice. Note: make sure to rinse black beans really well and drain. Add more spices: 1 teaspoon chili powder, 1 teaspoon cumin, 1/4 teaspoon salt to beef, stir to combine.

Prepare bell peppers for stuffing: cut the tops off, stem and seed them.

Stuff each bell pepper with the filling. Fill the baking dish with marinara spaghetti sauce and up to 2/3 cups of water (don’t pour all water at once – just pour enough to make the marinara sauce less dense). Place stuffed bell peppers tightly into prepared baking dish, cavity side up. Top each pepper with both grated Mozzarella and Cheddar cheese. Sprinkle some cheese over the tomato sauce too. Cover with foil

Bake for 30-40 minutes, until the peppers are tender and the filling is hot. Serve in shallow bowls, with some of tomato sauce on the bottom.

*side note* I didn’t use the spaghetti sauce method. Maybe next time I will give it a try.😉

Walking in Wonderland

My name is Alyssa, not Alice, but at times I sure do feel like I’m chasing a rabbit down a hole at times. Nature is very compelling to me. I find nature to be tremendously relaxing. It’s amazing how the birds of the air have no worries in the world and yet, God still cares for them throughout the seasons. They fly graceful throughout the air and the anointing that God provides. Last year, when God was revealing so much to me, foolishly, I envied those birds. They always look so free and careless about what other people are doing around them.

I too wanted to be free, closing my eyes while soaring up to the high heavens. Oh! What a feeling that would be.

During that time, and even now, the Lord reminded me that he came down here to earth over 2,000 years ago for a reason. To set us free from the world and everything in it.

My flesh tends to forget the deep meaning of the sacrifice that Jesus made for all of us. While walking in Wonderland, Jesus always comes along. You know the saying “I’ll go wherever the wind takes me?” Well, I literally grab my DSLR camera go wherever the Holy Spirit leads me. Most times, it leads to a calm body of water. Since I live in Dallas, that’s usually a lake (unfortunately, there are no oceans near Dallas *sad face*)

For a while, I challenged myself with the “Disciple Challenge”. It was something that I made up & named myself. I would write some encouraging words of wisdom on a card and explain how much Jesus loves all of us.

While walking in Wonderland, I would pray to God to lead me to someone who was in dire need of help. If that meant, they were financially in trouble, needing hope to make it day to day, or struggling to find a sturdy shelter over their heads. Whatever the case was, I asked God to help me be a blessing to anyone that I could. I have found myself even running to give someone, ANYONE, a card! haha

When the Pentecost came about and the Holy Spirit drenched itself over the disciples, they instantly felt the power and need to go spread the gospel upon the nations. BUT first, they went into their own backyards to spread the news.

That story inspires me very much to do the best that I can do lend a hand and spread the good news of the Lord here in Texas.

Do you ever find yourself Walking in Wonderland? Walking without a sole purpose but then finding it eventually?

Reminder: The Battle Is The Lord’s!!

Whew! Can you believe that the year is almost half way over??? Somehow I am still baffled that time is flying by the way that it is. I am sure I’m not the only one who has a mini freak out by thinking about it. Lol

During this year of 2016, I have been challenging myself to do better, as well as, treat others better. When I feel the pressure of everyday life taking a toll on me, I try to remain at peace. No matter how much I am being afflicted, I want to do good by others!

The month of May has been extremely stressful for me. As my unemployment funds have been extinguished, I am keeping my faith in God to make a way out of no way. Which is something that the Lord does best. For the past few months, I have been job hunting like crazy. With God’s favor, I have had several interviews as well. When it seems like all hope is lost & I cannot do anything else, I have to give my battle to God. I remind myself of the many miracles he has performed in the past and how he will do it again!! I know he cares and I know he is with me through it all. ❤️

Each week one of my favorite pastors uploads a podcast on iTunes. His name is Pastor Joseph Prince. I’ve posted one of his teachings on my blog in the past. When he refers to the scriptures in the bible, he breaks down the words & defines their true meaning in Hebrew. The following video is called “Five Words to Live By: The Battle is The Lord’s”. If you have any spare time today, I recommend checking out this video. It is only 16 minutes long and has helped me tremendously these past few days. For those who are going through, like myself, don’t pass it up. Give yourself a break & much needed rest. Keep me in your prayers, as you will be in mine. God bless!! ❤️

Poem: Jesus Loves Us ❤️

Good Morning everyone!! I pray that you all are doing wonderful this Tuesday morning. I am posting a poem by Desley Finedon called “Jesus Loves Us”. It’s a poem that has made me smile during my time of confusion & despair. Enjoy!

“Jesus loves me this I know,

for the Bible tells me so.”

This is a very special thought:

to young and old it ought be taught.
God’s love was there before our birth,

even before He made the earth.

In our mother’s wombs He formed our parts;

knit together body, soul and heart.
He loves as a shepherd loves his sheep;

as a mother when her child weeps.

He is our Father, saving, caring,

protecting and our burdens bearing.
His love never fails, is always warm,

giving peace inside when outside’s a storm.

He is gentle too, patient, kind,

and with good thoughts fills our minds.
When we know God loves us so,

we are strengthened to face our foes;

not run away, feeling low,

alone, uncertain how things will go…
For He makes secure, brings hope to life,

boldness to stand for what is right;

changes us to consider other’s needs:

God’s love is shared through kindly deeds.
Jesus loves us: all may know

what the Bible tells is so.”

Devotional- Spiritual Weapons

  Your Three Best Weapons

“Through careful strategy and cunning deceit, Satan attempts to wage war against you and keep you in a mindset of defeat. But God has given you spiritual weapons to use against him. Here are the main three spiritual weapons you can use to fight off the enemy:

1. God’s Word: Receive it through preaching, teaching, reading and private Bible study. Continue in the Word until it becomes revelation given by inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

2. Praise: This defeats the devil faster and more efficiently than any other battle plan, but it must be genuine heart-praise, not just lip service or a religious ritual.

3. Prayer: Prayer is relationship with the Godhead. It is communication with God, asking Him for help or talking with Him about whatever is on your heart. To have an effective prayer life, we must develop an intimate, personal relationship with the Father. Know that He loves you and that He wants to help you.

There is a war going on, but God is fighting on your side and has given you the weapons you need. Use them to send Satan running!

Prayer Starter: Lord, thank You so much for giving me the spiritual weapons I need to fight my enemy. With Your help, I know that I can win the battle today!”

” For though we walk (live) in the flesh, we are not carrying on our warfare according to the flesh and using mere human weapons.” 2 Corinthians 10:3

Poem: I Have A Friend Named Jesus ❤️

“I have a friend named Jesus.
There’s no other friend like He.

I have a friend named Jesus.

Gave His life to set me free.
I have a friend named Jesus.

A perfect, sinless man.

I have a friend named Jesus.

For me He has a plan.
I have a friend named Jesus.

On Him I can rely.

I have a friend named Jesus.

All my needs He will supply.”

The photo above is actually my screensaver on my phone. Daily, I picture myself sitting on this rock next to Jesus while admiring the work of God within the galaxies.  What a peaceful thought. I love knowing that he will never leave me nor forsake me. It is by his grace that I am making it day to day.

Don’t forget that he is with you too! Keep your head up. ❤️

Today’s Topic: Reflection

Do you ever look back on your past to reflect on what happened a year or two ago? Are you the type to regret everything that has happened or do you understand that it happened for a reason?
Personally, I purposely reflect on how my life has developed to where I am at this moment. I reflect on the good and the “not so easy” times that have passed. No matter what, I know there is no going back. The difficult times have molded me into a more refined believer than I was before.

It’s not coincidence or “luck” that I am where I am right now. I’m on a path that God predestined for me to take.

I reflect back and recall those harsh times to ensure myself that better memories ARE coming ahead. When you go through certain challenges in life, think about what God is wanting you to learn from the situation. He’s not setting you up to fail. He is guiding you to greater!! Even though greater may not feel as “good” but eventually you will see what exactly God was putting together.

Yes, we will never be perfect nor will be always feel one constant feeling 24/7. Thankfully, God’s love for us never fails; his love is faithfully bestowed onto us daily. Look back on your life, making sure that you don’t stay in the same place, but instead try to grow in more ways than one.

When God says NO to something it is for your best interest; probably because he has something even GREATER in store for you. Thank him in advance!

God sees the finished work that you will become. God is still molding you through to BECOME that fantastic work. It’s amazing how he already knows each time that we will slip and stray away. With that being said, what’s even better is how God never takes away the grace and annoiting that we need to become refined work from our tribulations.

“But He knows the way that I take [He has concern for it, appreciates, and pays attention to it]. When He has tried me, I shall come forth as refined gold [pure and luminous]. [Psalms 17:3; 66:10; James 1:12.]” ‭‭Job‬ ‭23:10‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Today’s Topic: Volunteering

I haven’t been posting as often as I used to due to my persistence in helping others. “Blessed are those who give than who receive” is what I hear when it comes to volunteering. Since I have been unemployed, I have been trying to dedicate my free time to giving back in the Dallas, TX community. As my heart resides in wanting to help other people in 3rd world countries; there’s countless amounts of people who are in dire need right here in my own “backyard”.

I’ve found a few non-profit organizations to seriously get involved in. One is a group called “Christian Community Action” and the second is an Rape & Crisis Help Center called “Turning Point”. I relate to both organizations very well. There are families who rely on these organizations to get them back on their feet. With the chaos that is going on in this wicked world, people need to be reminded that LOVE & GENEROSITY still exist.

A lot of people want to get more involved but self-limit their actual capabilities by saying “When this happens, THEN I’ll do ___” ; “When I win a million dollars THEN I’ll do___”
Most people don’t realize the impact they can make RIGHT NOW in this world. The little things do matter the most. While I am waiting for my big breakthrough, I want to touch every life that I come across. When this momentary life is all said and done & we are face to face with God himself… I want to be able to say that I did everything that I could to evangelize & care for his people. I don’t seek self-glory, I seek to help the kingdom of God.

While some are breezing by each month, there are others who are struggling each second of their lives. My question to you is: Have you thought about giving back in your OWN community?

Here’s some tips on how to start getting involved:

  • Sit and analyze where your heart resides & what impact you would like to have on those in need. (EXAMPLE: Does your heart go out to those who are homeless? Does your heart go out to those who are involved in sex trafficking?)
  • Google (our generation’s bestfriend lol) non-profit organizations in your area
  • Start small by giving inspirational cards to strangers.
  • Make a plan and EXECUTE it. Remember that you can do this!!

Instead of only asking God to change people’s lives, let’s start asking God for his amazing strength to help US change those lives. If we all worked together, we could make a serious impact. Stay Blessed.
